FAQ

Got questions about an equestrian photo session? Deziree shares some answers to the most common questions we hear:

What should I wear? What should my horse wear?

These are by far the most common questions I hear from my clients! Don’t worry, I’ve actually got an entire guide to help you out. If you’re booking a session with Deziree’s Photography, I’ll be emailing you a PDF with all sorts of helpful tips on what you and your horse should wear. Or, if you haven’t booked a session yet, you can sign up for my newsletter to get the guide, along with a coupon.

Do I need to do anything special with my hair or makeup for my session?

Personally, I love using photo sessions as an excuse to get my hair and makeup professionally done. Nothing makes a girl feel quite as glamorous as a pro making her look her best. Let me know if you need recommendations for an awesome hair and makeup artist. But, if you’re not going that route, I recommend doing your hair and makeup like you would for a night out, a little heavier than just your everyday makeup.

What do I need to do to get my horse ready for our shoot?

Prep your horse like you would for a show. Bathe them, comb our their mane and tail, and considering using a product like Showsheen to get them looking perfect. If you normally use hoof polish when showing, considering applying some prior to your session.

How can I ensure that my horse won’t be too excited?

If you’re worried about your horse being hot and excitable at the session, I definitely recommend lunging him down beforehand.

What if my horse doesn’t behave well at the session?

Sometimes horses just aren’t into the idea of a photo session. And most horses get a little annoyed when we spend a few hours making them stand in specific spots and point their ears in a particular direction. But, I’ve yet to meet a horse that I couldn’t get at least some good images of. Whatever your horse is doing, we’ll make it work and get beautiful photos. It’s most important that you feel safe and comfortable throughout the session.

What if the property my horse is on isn’t pretty?

I can usually find a scenic way to capture any barn or property. Or, if you definitely don’t want to photograph at your horse’s location, we can find a park to trailer your horse to for your session. Please let me know if you’d like help finding a nearby park. Many require permits to photograph at, so I will need at least a few weeks to make sure I have permission to work there.

What happens after the session? When do I get my images?

After the session, I’ll get to work editing your images. Within two weeks, I’ll have a gallery up for you to view your images and select the images included in your package. As soon as you make your selections, you can directly download your images. If your package includes products, you’ll also be able to select your photos for those products. Products take a few weeks to prepare, but you’ll receive them within about three weeks of making your selections.

Can I share my images on social media?

Of course! Please do not edit or apply any filters to your images, but feel free to share any images included with your package on social media. Of course, I always appreciated when you tag Deziree’s Photography in your images.

What if the weather is bad on the day of our session?

I’ve had sessions on sunny days, overcast days, rainy days, and snowy days and each time, we’ve ended up with beautiful photos! So if you’re up for a session on a less than stellar day, than so am I. But, if there is precipitation in the forecast, we can definitely reschedule.

Looking forward to making some beautiful photos with you!
